After students have completed their final writing assignments, you can use the rubric provided in the Teacher’s Guide to help you assess their work. In addition, it may be motivational and a further learning opportunity for students to share their essays with their classmates, peers, and/or family members. You may also consider having students post their essays online. This can provide an additional opportunity for students to comment on and discuss each other's essays. If you are not already part of an online writing community, there is an example of one in the Teacher’s Guide.
Students can also be encouraged to assess their own learning. You might return to the chart of ideas that the class developed before the lesson and record their new learning. You can also bring students together as a whole class or in small groups to discuss the reflection and self-assessment questions provided in the Teacher’s Guide.
How might you encourage your students to reflect on the lesson they have completed and extend their learning experience?
