Before the Lesson
Now that you have selected a lesson and decided where it will fit into your curriculum, you can focus on preparation. Go to the “Before the Lesson” page of the Teacher’s Guide and complete the checklist of activities. This will include working through the lesson yourself to know what students will experience, deciding if students should work individually or in pairs, preparing to provide instruction on key vocabulary, determining students’ prior knowledge, suggesting a timeline for the lesson, and setting up the computers.
After you have reviewed and completed the checklist, write notes about how you will prepare the lesson. For example, consider the following questions:
- Will students be working individually or in pairs?
- What is the timeline for the work?
- How will you introduce students to the key vocabulary?
- What expectations do you have about students’ prior knowledge about this topic?
