About tree frogs...

Tree frogs have wide toes with sticky toe pads as well as strong feet, to help them grasp the limbs of trees and other plants. Most tree frogs in the United States have green or brown coloring, but tree frogs residing in tropical climates often sport bright colors, which may help them deter predators. Some species even change their colors for better camouflage!

Red-eyed tree frogs live in the trees of Central America  climbing up and down branches and leaves they camouflage themselves by tucking their bright legs and feet underneath themselves, and by shutting their bright red eyes. If a red-eyed tree frog hears a predator approaching, it will suddenly open those eyes to startle the threatening animal!

"Hola! Did I startle you? I'm great at scaring people! I guess I do leave a negative impression sometimes.  But I thought you’d stop by, so I decided I would be sticking around. With my feet tucked under my body and my eyes closed, I blend right in with the leaves of my favorite Jacaranda tree. When you approached, you didn't see me at all! Hah! Gotcha!

My ability to scare is great fun, but it's also important for my survival! I consider myself pretty attractive, but, when a predator approaches, I can repel them just by opening my eyes! Would you try to eat someone with frightening red peepers? Take a look at these! Hah!"
