Science and Engineering Practices
There are eight science and engineering practices referenced in the standards:
- Asking questions and defining problems
- Developing and using models
- Planning and carrying out investigations
- Analyzing and interpreting data
- Using mathematics and computational thinking
- Constructing explanations and designing solutions
- Engaging in argument from evidence
- Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information
Take a look at this diagram that helps illustrate the commonalities among the practices in science, mathematics, and English language arts.
- Science teachers, how can inquiry- and design-based teaching become a regular component of classroom life?
- Teachers of other subjects, what kinds of learning activities in your classroom prompt students to analyze and explain everyday phenomena?
