The revised standards feature the integration of practices with concepts: Science and Engineering Practices emphasize science investigation and engineering design skills, and Disciplinary Core Ideas help students help students analyze and explain the physical and designed world they live in. Standards take the form of Performance Expectations that describe what a student should be able to do in order to demonstrate that they have met the standard. Here are the shifts in the revised standards and their implications for curriculum and instruction.

The goal of teaching needs to shift from facts to explaining phenomena Inquiry and design-based teaching is not a separate activity; all STE learning should involve engaging in practices to build and use knowledge Teaching involves building a coherent storyline across time |
