Key Shifts in the Draft Revised Science and Technology/Engineering (STE) Standards
Here are some key shifts proposed in the latest draft of STE standards:
- Integration of disciplinary core ideas and practices reflect the interconnected nature of science and engineering.
- All four disciplines, including Earth and space science, life science, physical science, and technology/engineering are included in each grade (Pre-K through 8th), as well as in high school, to encourage integration across the year and through curriculum.
- The STE standards are coordinated with the Commonwealth’s English Language Arts and Mathematics standards.
- Pre-K to grade 8 teachers, consider how this approach to integrating the four disciplines benefits students.
- Grades 9–12 teachers, consider how you draw connections across disciplines and topics.
- All teachers, based on what you’ve already learned about the revised ELA and Math standards, reflect on the major connections that you see between them and the new science standards.
