Talk About It! Making a reading fort!
The very first activity is to make a reading ‘fort’ – a special reading space, place or nook in your home to be used throughout this lesson.
Children love a cozy place to call their own and to share with special friends. Some of the best childhood memories are made from tent and fort-building. It does not matter whether the reading fort is simple or elaborate - setting aside a special space can make reading more focused and fun.
There is no right or wrong way to make your fort, but it must be able to fit both parent and child so you can read together! You can make an INDOOR fort, OUTDOOR fort, or BOTH!
