Webcam Interviews
You may be asked to talk to an employer via Skype or another online video calling service.
If you are doing a webcam interview, be sure to test the software before the interview. Get familiar with how it works, and try a couple of test calls with friends or family if possible.
Also, take a close look at the view of yourself using the webcam. Is there enough light? Can you be seen and heard easily? How close do you need to sit to the screen for the best image?
Finally, pay attention to what can be seen behind you. Are there dirty dishes, piles of clothes, or other distracting items that need to be moved?
For the time of the interview, take careful control of the environment. Make sure that televisions are off; phones are muted; and pets, kids, roommates, and family members do not interfere. If this is no easy task at home and your webcam is on a mobile device or laptop, consider reserving a private room at your local library, and have the interview there. Arrive well before the scheduled interview time to test the internet connection and any other technology issues.
