PART 3: FOLLOWING UP
Your work does not stop when the interview comes to a close. There’s still more to do and a couple of final opportunities to show why you are a great candidate for the job.
Find out next steps
If, by the end of an interview, the employer has not already explained the next steps in the decision-making process, this is the time to ask. Before you leave the interview, you need to know what the employer plans to do next and what you are expected to do.
These questions can help:
• When will you be making a decision?
• May I call next week to follow up?
When you get home, while the experience is fresh in your mind, think about your interview and make some notes about it. Write down the name of the person who interviewed you and whether you need to do anything to follow up after the interview. Learn from the experience. Think about what you did well and what you need to do to improve. Your interviewing skills will improve with practice.
