We make lots of trash every day. Our trash goes to the landfills. Our landfills are growing too large. People have found three ways to solve this problem.

Some trash can be recycled into new things. Tires can be made into playground mats that help keep children safe when they fall. Metal cans can be made into rain gutters. Plastic bottles can be melted and made into lawn chairs.

Some trash can be reused. Glass bottles can be washed and used again. Old clothes can be given to others. Worn out chairs and tables can be made to look new again.

We can also reduce our trash. We can reuse plastic bags. We can use, wash, and reuse drinking glasses so paper cups will not go into the trash. Adults can use refillable coffee cups.

These are three ways to solve our trash problem and reduce our landfills.
