About the owl...
Owls live on every continent and their looks range nearly as much as their habitats! The smallest species of owl has a wingspan of about ten inches, while the wingspan of the largest owls can reach over six feet. Owls typically use camouflage to blend in with their surroundings: the snowy owls of Canada and Alaska have white feathers, while wood-owls are brown-spotted to blend in with the forest. Blending-in helps owls catch prey – usually small rodents – using their sharps talons and excellent night vision. Owls' ears also make them great predators: with their super-powered hearing they can hunt for prey even when it’s hidden beneath the snow.

Meet the owl...
"I am the night! I may look soft and fuzzy, but rodents would be sorry to forget that I have good hearing, quiet wings, strong talons and unmatched eyesight! I’m the ultimate mousetrap!
Humans like to call me wise. I may look wise but come closer and I’ll let you in on a little secret: I’m not a particularly inventive bird. Why, I don’t even build my own house. But whoooo cares?! I live in a wonderfully cozy abandoned raven’s nest. Whoooo needs a brand new nest anyway? Why reinvent the wheel? Besides, reusing another’s nest gives me more time to catch mice. And eat them. Now that’s what I call WISE!"
