There are three states of matter. They are solid, liquid and gas.
Solids have molecules that are very close together. They are tightly packed. The molecules cannot move very much. They cannot slide past one another. They keep their shape.
The molecules in liquids are not as close together. They can slide past one another. Liquids flow. They take the shape of their container.
Gas has molecules that are far apart. There is empty space between them. Molecules in gases are free to bounce and move around. They will fill a container or float away in open spaces.
