Students of every background will need and deserve time to process what they are learning and experiencing in Mission US. Unlike most textbooks and many other history resources used in schools, Mission US brings the human experience of history to the forefront. The missions provide students a way to understand history’s impact on real people. They will care about and feel connected with many of the characters (and historical figures) they encounter. This adds a level of emotional engagement to their study of history that they may not have experienced before. They will need a supportive classroom community in which to wrestle with the complicated historical dilemmas and their consequences in the interactive experiences.
The Mission US Classroom Guides include a link to the video “Top 5 Things to Know Before You Play Mission US.” Sharing and discussing this video with students give them an opportunity to preview what they might experience while playing the mission and can help provide a foundation for class discussions students will have later.
