More for Parents! Here are some teaching tips for you!
Your beginning reader needs to be able to quickly sound out words while reading.
When your child needs to sound out a word, teach them to say each letter’s sound, then smoothly and quickly blend the sounds together to make a whole word.
Here are some everyday ways you can practice with your child:
- Point to alphabet letters and ask your child to name them and say their sound.
- Write together: write notes, texts, e-mails, and shopping lists.
- Sing together: use a song sheet to follow the words as you sing familiar songs.
With help from their parents and teachers, kids can learn strategies like decoding to make early reading less frustrating and a lot more fun!
