REACH FOR MORE! Fun things to do, chosen for you!
Host a Poetry Night! Ask you friends and family members to recite short poems that they have found or written. Give small prizes for the favorite poems. Challenge: Memorize a Poem! Recite it and act it out with dance or with gestures while you recite it.
Make a Picture Book! Take photos or illustrate things you like to hear, see, touch, smell and taste. Then make a page for each of the five senses and place your photos or illustrations on its page.
Be a Snack Detective! Make a snack to share with your reading partner (like popcorn, peanut butter on celery, jelly on bread, or fruit.) Before you taste your snack, concentrate on your senses….see your snack and describe what it looks like. Smell it and describe what it smells like. Touch it and describe what it feels like. Write down the words you used to describe the snack. Then, share your snack with your reading partner and describe how it tastes!
Make a Word Jar! Listen carefully for “feeling” words, or "sensory" words. Write these words on pieces of paper and put them in your word jar. Each day take out some and and practice reading these words. Tell their meanings to your parent or reading partner.
