More for Parents! Here are some teaching tips to practice with your child.
Every day, everywhere, you can find examples of opposites. Talk about opposites with your child and help them learn to describe opposites. Play simple word games by saying, “UP is the opposite of _____ (DOWN).” “IN is the opposite of _____ (OUT).” “HOT is the opposite of _____ (COLD).” Think of other words that have an opposite (night/day, big/small, happy/sad, fast/slow, light/heavy, short/long, open/closed, awake/asleep, strong/weak.) Soon your child will recognize opposite words and be able to make up their own word games.
Opposites are fun and easy teaching tools that help families strengthen reading skills and teach vocabulary words to their early readers.
