About mountain goats...
Mountain goats live in high-altitude places in North America, from Alaska to the Rocky Mountains. These sure-footed goats grow to over three feet tall, and both the male and female goats have horns on their heads and long "beards" on their chins.
Mountain goats have two layers of fur to keep them warm in their high-altitude habitat, and short, sturdy legs to help them balance on steep mountain terrain. These goats graze on grasses, shrubs and mosses, as well as pine and fur trees. |
Meet the mountain goat...
"Nothing makes you appreciate rocks quite like a good climb, man. You might call me an adventure seeker, but this is the way I live my life. I have everything I need for rockin’ life on the side of a mountain. With my strong legs and hooves built for navigating tough terrain, I’m a champion rock climber – no ropes needed!
I’m very different from your down-home goats. Huh! I'm more closely related to antelopes and gazelles. I have stronger legs for climbing and leaping, and I wear a much warmer coat! Huh! While those little old goats are hanging out on farms and loitering at petting zoos; I’m living the wild life...ha ha!"
