About cats...
Cats are the most popular type of pet in the United States. There are different breeds of cats, just like different breeds of dogs. For example, the Maine Coon is the biggest cat breed at over twenty pounds, and calico cats which have spots of three or more colors, are usually female.
Cats born from a single litter can look very different from one another. Kittens usually get their color from their parents. The length of their fur is also determined by their parents' fur length. These features of cats are called inherited traits.

“We're the TWINS!” “They’re just two months old. One at a time now…” “We're already learning to jump and run and land on our feet.” “We're still a little clumsy, but our balance is improving! ” “Just like human children, the kittens are learning to share and to play with each other. And, just like other siblings, they sometimes fight with one another over food and cat toys and attention. ” “We're very competitive.” “Can you tell we’re related? We’re gray-and-white TABBIES! ” “We got our looks from our momma. ” “We have Momma’s markings but our colors are like our Papa’s.” “What other traits might you have inherited from your parents?” “Our fast speed!” “Our awesome hunting ability!” “And our fascination with yarn!” “You silly kittens! These things are true of most cats! But just like human families, our family traits make us very special.” |
