Everyday Forces
Every day you use force to move things. Force is when something is pushed or pulled. But what is the difference between a push and a pull? Can you tell the difference?
Push
An example of force is when you hit (push) a baseball across the field. You use force when you kick a soccer ball. If you use more force, the ball will travel farther and faster.
Pull
Another example of force is when you catch (pull) a baseball. Force is used when you trap a soccer ball. If the ball is traveling slowly, it will take less force to catch it. If the ball is traveling fast, it will take more force to catch it.
More Force, Less Force
Some objects are heavy and some are light. It takes more force to push or pull a heavy object. A light object will take less force to move. Think about a bowling ball and a basketball. It takes more force to push a bowling ball. It takes less force to push a basketball.
