Weather maps can show temperature for one day or for each hour of the day. Meteorologists also use maps that show temperature data for longer periods of time, like a month. The April 2013 map on this page shows the average monthly temperature. The average temperature represents what the temperature was mostly like for the whole month.
This information is helpful: if you know that the average temperature for a certain month is 75°F, then you can confidently assume that there were no snowy days or very few days that you needed a coat to be outside.
