Studying Weather

You are not the only one who notices weather conditions such as temperature and precipitation. Meteorologists, or weather scientists, study weather by using different tools.

They use weather instruments such as a rain gauge to measure rainfall amounts, an anemometer to measure wind speed, and a thermometer to measure temperature. The data they collect daily helps them make weather forecast maps, like the one below, which we can see on TV or online. Meteorologists also use the data to make predictions about what kind of weather might happen next.
