The hard, rigid part of our geosphere is called the  LITHOSPHERE.

The lithosphere is made up of the CRUST and upper mantle and is broken into plates.

The CORE’s heat powers the movement of plates.

The movements of the asthenosphere that cause the plates to move are called   CONVECTION CURRENTS. 

VOLCANOES can form where plates collide or move apart.

EARTHQUAKES happen with movement on any plate boundary.

Liquid rock MAGMA rises to create new earth where plates move apart.

Plate boundaries move at a rate of several CENTIMETERS per year.
