What makes a DSG club special is the opportunity for kids to work alongside a partner club from another country to develop their "global competency"—the ability to communicate and collaborate with people around the globe who have different backgrounds, perspectives, and concerns.
You can help kids develop their global competency by encouraging them to:
ask the kids in their partner club thoughtful questions about their country, school, or community—question they really want to hear the answers to!
discover what they have in common with the kids in their partner club (for example, types of music, TV shows, movies, or sports).
explore their differences (for example, climate, geography, languages, customs, or holidays).
think about how their views of the kids in their partner club may be changing over the course of the club. Almost every DSG club has reported that kids' ideas about their partner club evolve and grow. In many cases, cultural stereotypes and misconceptions begin to disappear.
Take this quiz to test your understanding of global competency and how you can help kids develop these important life skills.
