Read this argument about kids playing violent video games and think about whether all the evidence is relevant to the argument:
Do your children play video games? Unless they’re playing harmless sports games, you might want to encourage them to cut back. Today, children are playing violent video games excessively, and playing violent video games on a regular basis increases the chances that a child will behave violently.
According to the National Institute on Media and the Family, children are watching TV for approximately 23 hours a week and playing video games for at least 5 hours a week. That’s a great deal of time spent immersed in a violent world, which rewards the child for gruesomely killing people. This desensitizes children to violence, making them more willing to deal with conflict aggressively. The journal Psychological Science reported a study in 2001 that showed that after playing a violent video game, the amount of “fight or flight” hormones, such as adrenaline, increased, along with heart rate and blood pressure.
There is no doubt violent video games should be limited to adults, rather than put in the hands of youth who are still developing and learning.
