In recent years, Internet access has become a necessity for teens. Schools expect students to use the Internet to access school information, to complete research assignments, and more. The Internet offers many benefits, but parents need to be wary of the dangers.

Surfing the Web and communicating on social-networking sites can provide a significant distraction, making it easy for teens to fall behind in school.  

In addition, employers and colleges check out social-networking sites to determine the character of applicants. Posting inappropriate photos or comments can haunt a person for years, leading to denial of acceptance to a college, failure to be hired, or loss of a job.

While the good outweighs the bad, the Internet can be a dangerous tool. Parents need to teach their children cyber safety and help them understand the risks and consequences of their online actions.
