Understanding, or comprehension, is the ultimate goal of reading.  Your child’s reading comprehension will improve when you make a practice of discussing and retelling storybooks together.

Discussing characters, setting, and key details builds understanding.  It is important for parents and their children spend time talking about, retelling and even illustrating the stories you read together.
