More for Parents! Here are some teaching tips for you!
Teaching children to recognize word families helps them read many more new words. Word families are familiar endings sometimes called ‘chunks’. An example of a word family is ‘un’. By adding letters in front, your child can read fun, pun, bun, run, and sun.
A simple way to practice using word families is by using magnetic letters: keep the last two letters the same but replace the first letter. Some of the words will be real – some will be nonsense words – but they are all good for practicing and will help your child learn to read!
