REACH FOR MORE! Fun things to do, chosen for you!
Build a Bug! Create a model of an insect. You can use marshmallows and toothpicks or sticks and mud balls or paper and glue. Label the parts of your model, like eyes, body, legs, feet, head, and mouth. Get creative and have fun building bugs! Challenge: write a flashcard about your insect, including its name, where it lives, what it eats, and what it does that makes it special.
Catch a Bug! Capture an insect (like a beetle, lightning bug or ladybug) and put the bug in a jar along with plants, leaves, sticks, and other things from its habitat. Watch the bug hide and try to camouflage itself in the jar. When finished, let it go free!
Build an Insect Habitat! Search the library or online to find out more about one of your favorite insects. Build a habitat for your insect in a shoebox. Label its parts and make a model or photo of your insect to place inside.
Make Camouflage Clothes! Use recycled clothes like an old T-shirt or old socks – white works best. Make your own camouflage print on the clothing with washable magic markers.
