Walker contributed to the fight against slavery by writing pamphlets promoting radical resistance, sewing them into the lining of clothing, and shipping them to the South with the help of Black sailors. Appeal to the Colored Citizens of the World (1829) was his most famous publication. It garnered enough attention from both enslaved people and enslavers that proslavery supporters offered $3,000 for his head and $10,000 to anyone who could capture him alive and bring him to the South.
In Appeal to the Colored Citizens of the World, Walker not only invokes the Declaration of Independence but directly quotes sections of the preamble. Find and highlight the areas in Section IV of the Appeal that have direct references to the Declaration of Independence.
