Water Waves
Ocean surface waves are a combination of transverse and longitudinal waves. Water waves do not carry individual water particles forward in the direction of the wave. The particles move forward, down, and back in a circular, repeating cycle as the wave passes. This is why birds move up and down on waves instead of being carried to shore.
