More for Parents!
Here are some teaching tips to practice with your child.
When reading together at home, ask your child, "Is this book fiction or non-fiction?"
- When reading fiction, readers are reading for enjoyment. A fiction text needs to be read in the order in which it is written to allow the reader to get the meaning of the text.
- When reading non-fiction, readers are reading for information or to learn something. A reader may be able to skip around in a non-fiction text to find facts and information.
Once you find out what kinds of books your child enjoys most, take a trip to the library. Ask the librarian to show you where to find books that your child will enjoy.
