Alright you get it! You know that nature works hard to give us everything we need to survive like food, water and air. But, do you know what makes your smoothies? Do you know what plays your favorite music? Do you know what powers your apps? What powers everything you do? We are talking about energy. We use a lot of energy every day. Lights, refrigerators, video games, and smart phones all need energy. Every device you plug in needs electricity or fuel to run. We all use energy.
Renewable/Nonrenewable
Most of our energy comes from burning coal, natural gas, or oil. The problem is that these are nonrenewable resources. That means they take millions of years to form. But we use them faster than nature can make them. Also, the waste made from burning coal, natural gas or oil causes damage to our environment. Thankfully, there are other natural sources of energy which also come from nature. Think about energy from the sun (solar energy) and wind. These sources of energy are renewable. Renewable means the energy is replaced quickly by nature.
Renewable energy can be cleaner with new technologies. Solar energy and wind can be used without using up the amount of energy we have. Solar panels collect sun light and convert it directly into electricity. We also have solar technologies. Wind is made when hot air rushes against cooler air. We use turbines to change wind into energy.
Helping our Environment
We have to plan where to place our devices for renewable energy. We have to think about the plants and animals. It might be a problem if they live near these power plants. Power plants should not get in the way of animal’s food. Animals also need to move freely in their habitat.
We should find ways not to waste energy. Then we don’t have to build too many power plants. We have chances to use less energy everywhere. We can turn down the heat or air conditioning. Don’t waste water. We can also use more renewable energy.
We should use renewable energy by using some of the new technologies. There are apps on smart phones that help us save energy. It’s important that we learn how this technology works. Nature works hard for us so we should work hard for nature.
