Understanding logical connections in nonfiction text such as cause and effect relationships, sequencing, and comparisons are important skills that help your child understand what they are reading. When reading together ask: What happened first, second, third, or last? Ask what caused a character’s actions or was the effect of the character’s action in the story? Brainstorm with your child and see if you can come up with your own cause and effect connections. Example: What would happen if someone did _______? Selecting interesting books can help children to learn to read and instill a love of learning that will last a lifetime!
Reading to learn is so much fun when families and friends can share reading time together.
