About walruses...
Even though walruses spend less than half of their time on land, they’re surprisingly fast runners, running on all fours in a gait similar to a dog’s. They’re nearly as fast as human runners. However, walruses are even faster swimmers. That’s handy because these large-tusked beasts spend significant time on sea ice or in the ocean, looking for mollusks and clams to eat. Most walruses in the Pacific North migrate over one thousand miles in the summers, and then return home in the winter.

Meet the walrus...
"Weighing in at a hefty two thousand pounds (hefty I'm not that heavy) most humans don’t know I can run at a surprising clip – nearly as fast as you! (Whatever) And, of course, I do take a pretty long swimming trip once a year. But did you know what my favorite thing is? Doing the Hokey Pokey!
(sing along) You put your right flipper in, you put your right flipper out, you put your right flipper in and you shake it all about. You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around. That’s what it’s all about! You put your left flipper in, you put your left flipper out, you put your left flipper in and you shake it all about. You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around. That’s what it’s all about! You put your head in, you put your head out, you put your head in and you shake it all about. You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around. That’s what it’s all about! You put your whole self in… that’s what gravity’s all about!" |
