Final Assignment
In this lesson, you have learned about the assimilation strategy of the Cherokees that worked for a number of years. You have also learned that this strategy finally failed to protect the Cherokees from land- and gold-hungry settlers. You will now write an essay that shares what you have learned and what you think about it.

- In your own words, describe how the Cherokees changed their culture in order to stay on their land. Then explain why they ended up losing their land even with these changes.
- You are a Cherokee chief in 1831. Write a letter to the U.S. Supreme Court arguing why the Cherokees should be able to remain on their land.
