Total war meant that no aspect of daily life was untouched. Civilians had to join the fight by supporting the war effort in every way. Avoiding waste, saving fuel, and making do with limited rations were all considered patriotic.
Propaganda also used humor to help boost morale. Using jokes and satire was a way to lighten the enormous impact of the war.
