Like food, música plays an important role in culture, allowing people to express and experience the range of feelings evoked by their country. Latino music is often a fusion, or blending, of rhythms from different countries, some of which we hear in MarKamusic, a multi-national musical ensemble that performs popular and traditional Latin music as well as music of the Caribbean and South American Andean regions.
Since its inception in 1999 as a Peruvian and Andean folk music quintet, MarKamusic and its director Freddy Chapelliquen have embraced the responsibility that ethnic artists have to their own people, history, and music.
