More For Parents! It is a big help for your early reader when you practice together with final e and vowel teams! Here are some teaching tips for you...
‘Say its name’ (long vowel sound).
Have your child underline the silent 'e' at the end of a word to remind them that it will make the long vowel in the middle 'say its name.'
Have your child make a box around two vowels together (vowel team) to remember that they make one sound – the first vowel’s long sound.
When writing and spelling words with your child, help them think about what makes the vowel long, short or silent. Ask questions.
“Do you hear a short or long vowel sound?”
“Is there an ‘e’ at the end or is it a vowel team word?”
