Fun in the Swamp! Understanding vowel sounds is very important for learning to read. In this lesson we will learn to recognize two-letter patterns that make long vowel sounds: vowel team and final 'e' or silent ‘e.’
A vowel team means two vowels are side by side in the word. The first vowel makes its long vowel sound and the second vowel is usually silent (as in bait, coat, leak, deep.)
A final ‘e’ or silent ‘e’ means words the vowel in the middle makes its long vowel sound, and the ‘e’ at the end of the word is silent (as in cake, bike, read, tree.)
