In 1957, the private owners of a Levittown home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, sold their house to William and Daisy Myers.
Although William, a World War II veteran, and Daisy, a teacher, were accomplished and upstanding citizens, this sale would set off a firestorm. William and Daisy were Black. Levitt & Sons had only sold to white homeowners and had created deeds where white people had to promise to resell their homes to white buyers only. The Myers made national news and endured nonstop harassment before they eventually relocated to another town.
