Step 1: Identify the issue and the system Involved.
When you're trying to understand an issue, or solve a problem, it helps to model the system that's involved. In the next few screens you'll step through a process that will help you "see" a system in action to get a better sense of how it functions. You'll see how the systems can cause certain things to happen, and what you can do to try to understand or perhaps improve the situation.
Watch this video, in which author Michael Pollan describes how important soil is to us, as well as what can happen to damage the health of the soil. Soil health is a dynamic system, which means that it changes over time.
Then use Arrange It to organize a visual diagram of what Pollan considers to be a healthy soil system.
